1. 三大检索工具：Beilstein的CrossFire；ISI的Web of Science；CA on CD。最常用的是Scifinder和Beilstein，通常用Scifinder来查化合物具体的合成路线的设计。用Beilstein查化合物的理化性质和具体的图谱数据。
2. 大型数据库，如中国期刊网（http://www.cnki.net/），万方数据库（http://www.wanfangdata.com.cn/），美国化学学会全文数据库（http://pubs.acs.org/），Science Direct电子期刊数据库（http://www.sciencedirect.com），英国皇家化学学会（http://www.rsc.org/），Wiley InterScience（http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journalfinder.html），Springer（http://link.springer.de/）等。但是，有时候专利里面也有很多有用的文献，如国家知识产权局（http://www.sipo.gov.cn/sipo/default.htm），美国专利（http://www.uspto.gov/patft/index.html），欧盟专利等。
3. 查化合物性质和有机反应的网站，如物性数据（http://www.cheresources.com/data.xls），热力学性质（http://www.questconsult.com/～jrm/thermot.html），查询物质结构性质等的网站（http://chemexper.com/，http://chem.sis.nlm.nih.gov/chemidplus/chemidlite.jsp，http://sp.chemindex.com/cn/psearch.cgi?terms=552-66-9+&sel=dict），化合物基本性质数据库(http://chemfinder.camsoft.com/)，有机反应查询网站（http://www.organic-chemistry.org/），合成路线查询网站（http://www.syntheticpages.org/browse.php）等。
